How to Beat Your Fear of Video (and Finally Show Up on Camera)

Let me ask you a question today, Authentics:

What’s really stopping you from putting regular video content out there for your platform, for your audience, for the people who need to hear your message?

If you’re someone who’s confidently hitting record and posting videos every week, this one isn’t for you (check out my strategy videos instead).

But if you do struggle with getting started, today I want to help you re-write the story you’re telling yourself about video.

Step One: Notice What Comes Up When You Press Record

Picture yourself pressing “record.”

What comes up for you?

Is it dread?
Fear of public speaking?
Worry about what others will think?

I often ask people, “Who’s in the room with you — figuratively speaking — when you’re shooting a video?”

Is it peers, family, colleagues, that one critical voice from your past?
Those invisible onlookers can stop you before you’ve even started.

So the next step is awareness — ask yourself:

What’s the story I’m telling myself around this fear?

Maybe it’s a memory of “messing up” at school.
Maybe it’s a deep-rooted belief that others are judging you.
Or maybe you’ve been comparing yourself to what’s already out there, thinking, “I’m not like them.”

Step Two: Rewrite the Story

Here’s the powerful shift:
Take the reason you think you can’t do it — and make it the reason you must do it.

👉 Don’t like the fake, over-hyped content in your space?
Then this is the reason for you to  be the example of something real.

👉 Scared of sounding like “those people” online?
That’s exactly why your voice matters, because we need more of your voice.

We need authentic creators to show up — because people are craving truth and connection.

People are even turning to ChatGPT as a therapist now (and as much as I love AI, that’s not a great sign for humanity).

The world needs real, human connection — and video is one of the most powerful ways to deliver it.

Step Three: Reframe the Fear

Maybe you have a genuine fear of public speaking.
Guess what? Even professional speakers still get nervous.

One podcast guest I heard recently said, “I still get the dread, but I’ve reframed it - this is my body giving me the adrenaline to do a great job.”

So instead of resisting those feelings, recognise them as proof that you care.
It means your message matters.

Step Four: Bust the Tech Excuse

Maybe it’s not fear — maybe it’s tech overwhelm.
You’re thinking, “I can talk to camera, but what do I do after that?”

Here’s the truth:
You don’t need to be a video expert anymore.

AI tools can now edit your videos, generate snippets, add captions — all while helping you stay authentic and save time.

So if “tech” has been your story, that story’s officially out of date.
You can create one piece of video content a week and repurpose it across every platform — easily.

Final Step: Step Up

If you’ve read this far, you know you’ve got something important to share.

And right now, the world is flooded with noise.

That’s why we need you — the good ones, the authentic ones — to show up.

Because someone out there can only hear this message from you.
They’ll connect to your story, your energy, your history, your style — not anyone else’s.

So let’s do it, Authentics.
Set up your camera.
Press record.
Tell your story.
Reach people.
Help people.
